A good game, for free

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 13 January 2009 12:55 (A review of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch)

For what was basically a free game, I enjoyed HL2 Deathmatch for a good while. Very quick gameplay and few team aspects made it slightly short-lived for a multiplayer game, but its worth a play, especially as it just appears on steam for nothing. It has also opened up multiplayer modding capabilities, which has perhaps been its largest effect.

A good improvement over the first

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 13 January 2009 12:39 (A review of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991))

"The second Terminator production has been widely regarded as better than the first."

Because it is. Featuring improved everything, the inverted Arnie role is key to the film. Without that, the film would lose a lot of the outstanding quality it has. While the original is good, this is essentially Terminator Mark II, filling in the pitfalls of its original and far exceeding it

For a New Liberty: The Libertarian Manifesto review

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 12 January 2009 12:29 (A review of For a New Liberty: The Libertarian Manifesto)

For a truly revolutionary piece of literature, read the Communist Manifesto, and see the society in which people should really be living. Until then, steer clear of this thoughtless propaganda.

Short but sweet

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:22 (A review of WarioWare: Smooth Moves)

First impressions, 'wtf'. However, with some friends round, it makes for some great laughs at each others expense. Sadly, its very short, but cheap updates would be ideal for this game.

Best console out there

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:19 (A review of Nintendo Wii )

As a PC gamer, I have never been interested in console gaming. For me, downscaling on visuals, controls, and not to mention games and gameplay never did appeal. But the Wii isn't an ordinary console. From the outset, I loved the new controls, and it makes a great console for when I don't quite feel like playing PC games, and would rather just sit around on a sofa. Other than the PS3 for its blu-ray capabilities and Little Big Planet, it's the only console worth getting.

A good game on both fronts

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:13 (A review of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare)

Boasting both a good single-player and multi-player modes, I have found this game thoroughly enjoyable. However, it would have been nice to have seen a more 'Battlefield 2' style of online ranking, so that you actually have to work for the higher ranks and unlocks are more delayed. Other than that, this release has been the best so far in terms of online, including World at War, and was only bested in singleplayer by CoD 2's Soviet missions.

Some things just should stay where they are

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 11 January 2009 05:52 (A review of Halo: Combat Evolved)

I really quite liked Halo on the console. Some great gameplay with some friends round, they did a pretty darned good job. And then there came the PC port. Full of exactly the same moments, it was really heart-warming to see that Bungie and Microsoft had gone to all the effort to make the PC port fun and enjoyabSTOP RIGHT THERE. To begin with, it was late. So what, with good gameplay, its alright to be fashionably late. Apparently not. The game looked like a slapped arse, with out of date textures and effects. Normally, this doesn't bother me, but the gameplay was dire too. Then the AI was terrible. And the multiplayer was dire This is a fine example of why Halo should stay where it is. Halo 2 was just as bad, and I can tell you now that I will definitely not be buying Halo 3 so Microsoft can bleed yet more cash out of a game. Screw cross-platform gameplay, I'm gonna go play something else

Suprisingly Good

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 9 January 2009 01:17 (A review of Pikmin 2)

At first I was a bit sceptical about Pikmin 2, but within a few minutes of actually playing it, it had really grown on me. Combining great concepts, puzzle gameplay, and action aspects, it's a great game that anyone except emos and the undead can enjoy. I can only hope there's another one soon for the Wii :)

Best space sim out there!

Posted : 15 years, 2 months ago on 8 January 2009 11:31 (A review of X3: Reunion)

A great game, even compared to the latest outing, X3: Terran Conflict. While it has a very steep learning curve, once you get over it you'll find yourself with a limitless, detailed, and very enjoyable universe in which you can make your fortune in any way you please. Highly recommended, especially with the Xtended Mod installed. It is a community made mod, adding tens of new spacecraft, stations, and other content, some of which have been used in the official X3: Terran Conflict. Originally plagued by bugs, the game has reached perfection through a series of patches which not only fixed bugs but added new content. Get it on the cheap now!

A masterful piece of literature

Posted : 15 years, 3 months ago on 30 December 2008 01:35 (A review of 1984)

An awe-inspiring piece of literature, Orwell not only presents us with a brutally depressing dystopia, but a flawlessly crafted one as well. He manages to be so descriptive about so little, Im such a way that you really feel for what characters there are in the book, and the empathy you feel for them and the predicament of mankind is unrivalled, particularly in the closing chapters. The root of all dystopian sci-fi, this book and its haunting themes shall remain with us forever
